How it works

We make it quick to reach a deck builder who works where you live, without searching through dozens of listings.

  1. You call or send a request

Tell us your township or neighborhood and what you're after: a new deck, composite boards, repairs or a rebuild, new stairs and railings, or a roof or screens over the deck.

  2. We connect you with a local company

Your call or request goes to an independent deck builder that serves Traverse City and the surrounding Grand Traverse County townships.

  3. The company handles the job

They quote, schedule and do the work. Pricing, warranties and terms come from them directly.

What we are and aren't

Traverse City Decks is a referral service, not a contractor. We don't send crews or employ technicians, and we don't set prices. Using the site is free for homeowners.

Under Michigan's Occupational Code, a contractor doing residential construction or remodeling generally needs a residential builder or maintenance and alteration contractor license from the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) once a project's total price for labor and materials reaches $600, and the work can't be split into smaller contracts to dodge that limit. Grand Traverse County's Construction Code office says every permit application it takes requires the contractor's license number, which it checks against the state's records. Ask the builder for that license number, proof of insurance, who will pull the zoning and building permits, and a written contract listing materials, footing depth, start and finish dates and warranty terms. Ask for lien waivers when you pay.
